Combi boiler repairs
Does your Combi boiler need some attention? Im assuming that if you’re reading this right now you may well have an issue with your boiler. You may be looking for someone who can fix the problem. Nobody wants their boiler to break, but unfortunately these things do happen and sometimes its necessary to call someone in to fix the problem.
In 1967 Vaillant conceived a device which for the first time combined heating and a hot water supply in a single combined unit – which is now commonly referred to as the ‘combi’ boiler. Domestic boilers in general have become increasingly complex over the last two decades or so – especially Combination boilers.
Getting the right person to fix your combi boiler is essential. Not all heating engineers fully understand how they work. Getting a heating engineer to fix your boiler who doesn’t fully understand how boilers work often leads to them guessing at what may be wrong. This often leads to parts being replaced which aren’t needed, and someone has to pay for them which is usually the customer! This results in a poor customer experience. I am a Combination boiler specialist. I specialise in domestic boiler repairs and maintenance. I cover repairs and maintenance for all types of domestic natural gas boilers including combination boilers, conventional boilers, system boilers, condensing or non-condensing, old or new.
Common causes of problems with Combi boilers include the following:
- Flat or damaged expansion vessels – loss of pressure or leaks.
- Dirty or damaged pressure relief valve – loss of pressure.
- Dirty auto air vents – leaks/loss of pressure.
- Blocked plate to plate heat exchangers – hot water problems.
- Faulty or blocked pressure switches/sensors – boiler fails altogether.
- Faulty flow turbines or flow switches – hot water problems.
- Faulty thermistor(NTC) sensors – can effect hot water and/or heating.
- Failing pumps – can effect hot water and/or heating.
Combi boilers in general are quite complicated, there are many components that can fail, which is why you should get a heating engineer thats understands them fully to maintain your boiler. Below is an example of how many components a Combi boiler can have. These are some of the main components that are housed within a Baxi Combi Instant 105 HE, just for example. Most of these are moving parts. Most of the non moving parts can also go faulty, for example the plate heat exchanger can leak internally, it can also get blocked which affects the hot water. Whilst the printed circuit boards on most boilers aren’t moving parts per se, most have electrical relays which are moving parts which can fail. This example is made up of 12 moving parts and 5 non-moving parts.
